Important Update: Guidelines for Inclement Weather & eLearning Days

Posted Date: 01/26/26 (05:20 PM)

Dear FLCS Parents, Students, and Staff,

With winter weather currently impacting our schedule, I want to provide clarity on how Frankton Lapel Community Schools (FLCS) handles school closures and eLearning.

To maintain high-quality instruction while meeting state requirements, we follow a specific order of operations for inclement weather days:

  • Asynchronous (Recorded/Independent) eLearning Days (Limit: 3)

Per state regulations, FLCS is permitted only three (3) asynchronous (recorded/independent) eLearning days per school year.  Today marks our third and final asynchronous eLearning day for the year.

  • Flex Days

Now that our asynchronous limit has been reached, we will transition to using Flex Days (pre-scheduled makeup days) as noted on the district calendar.  We have two Flex Days built in; we will use the first one for tomorrow’s closure.

  • Synchronous/Live eLearning or Year-End Makeups

Should we exceed both our asynchronous and Flex Days, we will pivot to:

  1. Synchronous/Live eLearning: Students attend virtual classes in real-time with their teachers.

  2. Added Days: Traditional makeup days will be added to the end of the school year in May.

Our priority is to keep learning consistent while ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to specify the “day type” in all weather-related notifications.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility!

Sincerely,
Sterling Boles
FLCS Superintendent
